Community Info

Reading United Soccer Club is proud of its community. In addition to the many programs offered to children, the club also tries to give back to the community in different ways. We provide two scholarships each year in recognition of the contibution made by some of the former members of the club.

JON JAVOR AWARD

Born in Hungary, Jon achieved his American citizenship while residing in Reading. He dedicated many hours as a coach, referee, and avid player, helping to establish Reading United Soccer Club. His son, Atti, starred as a soccer player at RMHS. This scholarship has been dedicated to Jon's memory and is awarded to a male scholar-athlete, chosen by the athletic director, whose determination in soccer will help preserve the passion Jon felt for the community and soccer program.

STEVE COLLINS AWARD

Steve was a true pioneer for the girls' division of Reading United Soccer Club. He helped develop the girls' program in his countless hours of coaching teams within Reading United as well as district select teams. A Spanish teacher at B.C. High, Steve was also a teacher of the game, combining his gentlemanly approach and supportive attitude. As a past president of Reading United Soccer Club, Steve's hours of leadership have been memorialized by the dedication of the varsity field at Parker Middle School. This award is dedicated to his memory and given to a female scholar-athlete, chosen by the athletic director, whose dedication to Reading soccer reflects Steve's passion & commitment.
